Caol Ila Distillery (pronounced “Cull Eela”) is a hidden cove near Port Askaig on Islay Island. Caol Ila is Sound of Islay in Gaelic. The distillery was founded in 1846. The ample, fresh, sweet, fruity and supple flavors are characteristic of Caol Ila 12 years old straw yellow in colour. All these flavors are well balanced. The clear nose presents citrus fruits with a slight smoky aftertaste. Robust and supple, it begins with sweetness and gives way to a deliciously smoky taste and a sweet and tenacious smoky finish. This single malt won the silver medal in the Outstanding category during the International Wine & Spirits Competition in 2015. Caol Ila, the ultimate Islay malt, is considered by experts to be the starting point of peat malt whiskey and the point of reference for Islay-single malt Scotch-whiskey connoisseurs the world over. It is best to drink it neat with a little water and/or ice.
